Castelsardo is a picturesque medieval village in North-Western Sardinia perched on the top of a promontory overlooking the sea of Golfo dell’Asinara. Founded by the Genoan Doria family, the town was originally named Castelgenovese. After the Aragonese conquest, it was renamed Castellaragonese. The village has been known by its present name since the mid-18th century, after Spanish rule ended.
The ancient medieval village still remains a true stronghold: its geographical position has protected it from enemy invasions and destruction for centuries. You will be able to admire its imposing ramparts and its winding staircases and streets, overlooked by the Doria Castle, home to the Museum of Mediterranean Weaving.
Do not miss the occasion to organise romantic dinners with breathtaking views of the sea and of the lights of the ancient village. Another must-see, located in località Multeddu, is the famous Elephant Rock, home to several domus de janas.
Sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts will enjoy the region’s spectacular beaches. A few top names: Punta La Capra, Punta Li Paddimi and Lu Bagnu.
Castelsardo is the perfect destination for those who dream of a holiday that combines romance and relaxation.
